The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme forms part of the Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses which are very well regarded in the construction industry and accepted as being the highest quality of qualification for SSSTS Training.
Training is targeted at site supervisors with a view to equipping them with the most recent up to date regulations and facts needed to manage effectively with their health and safety responsibilities using the safest working practices and approach. Training is completed over a two day period.
During the two day training programme, supervisors will gain vital knowledge regarding their legal responsibilities whilst carrying out duties on site, the course also provides a better knowledge of health, safety, environmental and welfare issues. The importance of promoting health and safety at work in order to monitor sites efficiently will be impressed upon candidates. Candidates should be either already in or due to acquire supervisory responsibilities and the course hopes to provide supervisors with the relevant knowledge and skills required to supervise sites carefully.
A large range of health and safety aspects specific to the role of site manager are covered within the training, as follows: CDM (Construction Design & Management Regulations), Working at Height, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), Manual Handling, Accidents & First Aid and Behaviour & Intervention Skills
Course candidates are assessed throughout the 2 day course through interactive sessions and will also sit a multiple choice, written examination in order to qualify for the SSSTS accreditation. Despite certification being valid for five years, it is advised that refresher courses are attended within three years. This is because of the continued changes in technology, legislation and environmental management.
SSSTS should not be confused with the 5 day SMSTS course for site managers.
This 5 day course is designed for those in a current site manager role, along with other professionals who hold a supervisory place within the workforce. Training is suited to those who wish to develop their approach and knowledge in accordance to the legal, moral and social side of their position. Necessary skills are established in handling on site health and safety issues, in line with up to date regulations.
In the region of 10,000 people annually, attend the SMSTS health and safety course. Candidates attending SMSTS training include those currently employed as site managers who wish to develop their awareness and understanding of health and safety, along with other professionals within the construction industry who aspire to the role of site manager. Employers of construction workers have a responsibility to see that their staff are acceptably trained in a variety of health and safety aspects. This is a legal requirement within the industry under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007. The 5 day SMSTS Course is the highest level of training available to meet this requirement.
